Middle Path Therapy: Your Questions, Answered
Got questions about therapy, counseling, or mental health support? We’ve got you covered. Here is what people like you often ask—and how we can help you find your way forward, step by step.
1. Will therapy, counseling, or mental health support actually help me?
Wondering if therapy works for anxiety, depression, or feeling stuck? If life’s overwhelming or relationships are tough, counseling can make a real difference. You don’t need to wait for a breaking point—it’s a space to understand yourself, process emotions, and grab tools to navigate better. We’re here for you, wherever you’re at.
2. What is it like to start therapy or counseling for the first time?
Never tried mental health therapy before? It’s just a conversation—no pressure, no interrogation. Your first session covers what’s on your mind, a bit of your story, and what you want out of this. Share what you’re ready to, when you’re ready—it’s your call.
3. Do you accept insurance for therapy, and what if I don’t have any?
Yes, we take a variety of insurance plans for counseling and therapy. Not sure what your plan covers? Our office manager, Sue, can check your benefits for you. No insurance? We’ve got private pay and sliding scale options to keep it affordable.
4. Can I do therapy or counseling online in Michigan?
Yes—telehealth’s an option across Michigan! It’s real therapy, no commute required. Tons of clients try online mental health support and end up loving it—not just for convenience, but because it fits their life, feels personal, and works just as well as sitting in an office.
5. Can I get couples therapy or counseling if my partner won’t come?
Absolutely—solo works too! You don’t need both of you in the room to improve things. Mental health therapy for one can shift how you handle challenges, offering insights and strategies that ripple into your relationship, partner or not.
6. What does DBT-informed therapy or counseling mean for me?
Curious about DBT-informed mental health support? It’s not “lesser” DBT and it doesn’t mean the therapist has less training. It means your therapist pulls from Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills in mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance and interpersonal effectiveness and tailors them to your life, when you need them most. Full DBT is super structured; this blends those tools into therapy or counseling that meets you where you’re at.
7. How do I know my therapist or counselor shares my values?
Worried your mental health therapist won’t get you? We don’t push beliefs or tell you what to think—we listen and help you figure out what matters to you. If it feels off, say so. We’ll tweak things to fit your path—it’s about your comfort, always.
8. Do you work with neurodivergent clients—autistic or ADHD—in therapy?
Yes! Whether it’s relationships, communication, or feeling good about yourself, we support autistic and ADHD folks in counseling and therapy. Some of us are neurodivergent too—we get it and can help you find your rhythm, your way.
9. Can I change therapists or counselors if it’s not a good match?
Definitely. The right fit’s crucial in therapy or mental health support. If it’s not clicking, no stress—we’ll help you switch to someone who feels better for you. It’s your journey, your choice.
10. How do I schedule a therapy or counseling appointment at Middle Path?
Simple—contact Sue, our office manager. She’ll talk availability, insurance, or anything else you’re wondering about mental health support. Call or text (989) 574-7382 or email support@middlepaththerapy.org.
11. Can I message my therapist or counselor between sessions?
Yes! Our secure, HIPAA-compliant portal lets you reach out about therapy or counseling needs. Replies are usually for scheduling or quick check-ins—if you need more, we can set up extra time to keep you going.
12. How can I tell if I’m dealing with depression or anxiety?
Feeling sad, wiped out, or stuck a lot? Or constantly anxious and on edge? Therapy or counseling can help you pin it down. No need to know for sure upfront—if it’s weighing on you, that’s enough to start mental health support.
13. Do I need a diagnosis for therapy, counseling, or mental health help?
Not at all. Some bring a diagnosis to therapy, others just feel off and want help. Counseling’s about supporting you, not boxing you in with a label—whatever’s going on, we’ve got you covered.
14. What if I can’t afford therapy or counseling right now?
We don’t want money to stop you. No insurance? Our sliding scale rates for mental health therapy keep it within reach, and Sue can help you find what works. It’s about your well-being—we’ll figure it out.
15. What if my therapist or counselor says something I don’t like?
Your voice matters in therapy. If something rubs you wrong, tell us—mental health support’s a two-way street. We’ll adjust, or if the fit’s off, we’ll find you a better match. You deserve to feel good here.
